Don’t Panic!
Going it on your own in business can be as exciting an experience as any outdoor adventure (maybe even more, since you can’t just back up and go back home when the going gets tough). However, it’s easy to get into a situation where things are looking bleak…after all, you have more than simple pride on the line here.
In any survival situation, the first rule is always Don’t Panic!
Panic is a perfectly understandable response — it is the descendant of the primal fight or flight response one always faces when faced by a threatening situation. And a lack of money while the bills pile up can definitely be a threatening situation.
However, blind panic can lead to dire consequences. At the very least, you could get lost. At worst, the struggle for survival can reach a crisis stage. As a freelancer, this could mean serious financial repercussions.
And yet, if you stop, assess the situation and make a plan, you can save yourself all that trouble. You may not be able to banish panic altogether, but you CAN recognize it as a signal that what you’re doing isn’t working, and you need to try some thing else.
Know this: you CAN make money as a copywriter, even with no experience. That may mean lots of smaller jobs while you gain the experience you need, but the jobs are out there to be had (and this site is going to show you how). There are plenty of us out there making a more-than-comfortable living…and there’s still plenty of need out there (just look at the ads in your local newspaper or on the radio for proof).
All you need is the proper direction, and you can move beyond mere survival, beyond just barely scraping enough together to pay the bills, and make a very good life for yourself as a freelance copywriter.
Just take a deep breath and forge ahead.
