CSG Freelance Survival School
a Successful and Profitable Freelance
Business Without Breaking a Sweat.

I grew up with two passions. I loved to play in the woods, and I loved to write. In fact, I knew how to survive alone in the woods with nothing but the shirt on my back before I could drive. Writing for a living…that one took a little longer.
When I finally decided to give it a shot, I did some homework, made a plan and I launched a successful
freelance writing career, much faster than I anticipated. In fact I’ve done it twice.
Success x 2
I was lucky, although not for the reasons you might think. I had no experience, no formal training as a copywriter, and zero contacts. But what I did have was experience as a successful manager and corporate trainer. I knew how to run a successful business and to create a plan to learn what I needed to know to develop new skills.
My first freelance career lasted about two weeks and consisted of a single gig with an ad agency…a job that resulted in an immediate offer of full-time employment, which I accepted. That was seven years ago.
My second freelance career happened when we moved to a new city. I had only intended to freelance in order to finance the search for a new full-time job. But the first month was so busy, I didn’t even have time to schedule interviews…and I realized I WAS working full time. That was about three years ago.
Success Isn’t Dictated by Economics
Funny thing is, both times it shouldn’t have worked. Both took place during a recessionary period. But while other freelancers I knew were struggling and straining against the “shrinking” market, my business was steadily growing day-by-day.
I was amazed by the doom and gloom I was hearing and how it contrasted with my own experience—my own success. The more I talked to these struggling writers, the more I came to realize that I had two things going for me.
First, was the management and training experience. Because of this, I had:
- Systems in place to make my business run smoothly
- A solid, growth-oriented plan with short and long-term goals, so I was seeing past whether this prospect gave me work or not.
- An intimate understanding of the pressures facing managers and owners, and how to talk to them about their business.
Second, was the survival skills I acquired at an early age. Knowing that you can lose everything and still live in relative comfort provides a certain reserve of confidence, even if times get a little rough. But the more I looked, the more I realized I was following the same principles to build my business that I’d follow if I’d been stranded in the wilderness. In both cases, there are certain necessities, and the means of finding them translate surprisingly well:
- Water = Paying Work (without it, survival is impossible)
- Fire = Marketing Your Business (makes undrinkable water drinkable, inedible food edible, and creates a psychological boost that can mean the difference between survival and…well, the alternative)
- Shelter = Proper Work Environment (Protects you from the elements, makes survival more comfortable, and creates another psychological boost as you claim a piece of the environment and make it your own)
- Food = Ideas (Not as crucial as water, but still, you need sustenance and fuel to drive your work)
Copywriter Survival School shows you how to survive in the wilds of a new or struggling freelance career. I designed this course in short, easy to digest weekly installments, with brief exercises to create small, steady, consistent action that will help you grow your freelancing into a real, thriving business.
There are four stages:
1. Starting your business - this part is actually covered in two of the free e-books listed below, 10 Days to Paid and Freelancer’s BootCamp. You can go from zero experience to earning real money in less than a month.
2. Getting established - This is where week 1 actually begins. From day one, you’ll start learning the things you need in order to differentiate yourself, identify and dominate multiple markets, locate and find work in new markets, get more work from existing clients and put your entire network to work, bringing you new business.
3. Creating passive income streams - Start putting your copy to work for yourself, and start making real money even during the typically slow seasons.
4. Eliminating and Automating those parts of the business you don’t enjoy. - During this stage, you’ll learn how to take on more work than you can handle…or even how to make more while doing less. The goals is to give you the time to do the things you want to do, rather than the things you HAVE to do.
(5. Plus, at the end of the course, well cover some new things I’ve been working on that you might get a kick out of.)
I developed the program based on the things I did to start a successful freelancing business myself scratch…twice!…to show you how to literally have your first paying client in just TEN days, even if you don’t have a portfolio, and steadily grow your copywriting business step-by-step.
That means real success could start in less than two weeks!
Every week for one full year (52 weeks) you’ll receive an email with a that week’s step-by-step lesson. Included in the lesson is an assignment for you to complete so you’ll make progress every single week.
Over the coming 12 months we’ll cover everything…
- Creating a killer portfolio, even if you’ve never had a paying client.
- Creating a website and online portfolio in just a few hours.
- Where to find your first paying customers
- How to take one day and turn it into a month’s worth of paying work
- How to go from complete novice to $75 an hour (or more) in just a few months
- Free and inexpensive resources you can use to seriously ramp up your business
- Tricks and techniques for demolishing writer’s block
- Doubling, tripling and quadrupling your return on your self-promotions!
- How to make money and learn new skills at the same time
- How to work less and make more
Instead of simply publishing this information in some ebook or quick coaching program, I’m making it available to you week after week in action-sized portions so you’ll actually get results.
You don’t need another ebook to clutter up your computer or more words to clutter up your brain. What you need is a weekly “here’s what you do next” action step to complete. What you need is for someone to show you how to quickly get started and then keep teaching you week after week so you don’t get stalled along the way.
And that’s exactly what I’m going to do when you join CSG Survival School.
